Conceived, sponsored, and curated by local Crane authority, Robert Eurich, owner of the community-oriented PortJervisNY.com website, the exhibit primarily uses photos from the archives of the Minisink Valley Historical Society to tell Crane’s story though images of Port Jervis as he would have known it.
In commemoration of Crane’s 145th birthday, the exhibit opened to the public on November 1, 2016 and is available for viewing anytime during the library’s normal business hours.

PUBLIC NOTICE: OPEN SEAT FOR LIBRARY BOARD IN JUNEAre you interested in making a difference in the future success of your public library? Are you prepared to represent the interests, concerns, and attitudes of your community? Are you willing to become more aware of the bigger picture by learning about public library issues and concerns? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you should consider running for a position on the Port Jervis Free Library’s board of trustees.
The Port Jervis Free Library trustee is an elected position so residents in the Port Jervis School District get to vote on the candidates. If you are a library advocate that is at least 18 years old, a resident within the Port Jervis School District, and not employed by the library, then you are qualified to run. In order to be on the ballot for the June election, you will need collect signatures from residents on a nominating petition form, which can be picked up at the library, located at 138 Pike Street.
The Port Jervis Free Library is governed by a five-member Library Board of Trustees, made up of community members who are elected to five-year terms. Overall, trustees invest about two or three hours a month in the organization, which includes the monthly meetings. Library trustees guide and advise the library administration on the big picture decisions. The members of the board also help craft library policy and oversee the budget. If you are interested in what a board meeting is like, feel free to attend one of our monthly meetings. We meet the third Tuesday of the month at 10:00AM in the library.
You may contact the library director at email@example.com if you want to know more about what it means to run and serve as library trustee. You can also check out the library’s website at www.portjervislibrary.org for more information about the library.
Serving as a library trustee is one rewarding way you can give back to your community. We hope you consider it.
